Guide Created by Quaon; and edited by Metz to represent/fit our region and its rules ect.
There are five main rules we (try to) follow here:
1) Never insult another user
2) Do not post Prohibited Content
3) Don't make stupid, inane posts that don't add anything to the forum
4) Follow the instructions of the Mod team
5) Have fun
In order to get the most out of these forums, I suggest you read this guide below. (Oh and if you make a poll, "single choice (1)" means voters can only vote once. "Multi-choice (X)" means people can vote X times.)

Hello, and welcome to Hyrule! This thread is here to help you begin roleplaying with this group. Here I’ll answer your frequently asked questions.
-Roleplaying? What’s that?
Roleplaying, or RPing as it is often called is easily described as collective storytelling. The object of RPing is to inform and entertain the rest of us with descriptive tales about your nation and the characters that live there. The more effort and detail you put into the story you choose to tell, the more people will become interested in it and want to join in. Always remember that RPing is not about winning, it’s about telling a good story. Our RPing is about the people, cultures, and relationships that make up our world and not just wars.
RPing is also about compromise between players, especially in war. When looking to tell a good story about a war between yourself and another nation or nations remember that a person who has a weak military but has great characters and is willing to compromise is much more valued to our group than someone with a billion man army who is a jerk. Always remember that in war stories, it's not the end that interests people, it's the journey your nation and it's characters take to get to that end that leaves your readers wanting more.
Quality is certainly valued over quantity. You don't have to write a novel to impress us. As long as we can tell you put true effort into your story, you will certain gain our respect and become a valued member of our group.
A rule of thumb is that anyone can tell a story, but it's the person who can put the reader into the story that we value here.
-What year is it in game?
We leave this pretty open to interpretation. We never really specify exact yearly dates, and leave it fluid. The player controls how long it takes for time to pass in their nation. However, though a player controls how time passes in their nation, it must remain within the realm of modern times. That is to say, that no matter what year your nation proclaims it to be, it's technology and society cannot escape that of technology and society of the real life 21 century. This is a modern day game: try not to stray too far into the future. So just ignore the inconsistencies this presents and pretend that it all make sense somehow. Time is relative, you know!
-Do we have rules on war roleplaying?
Yes we do and actually we have many. First of all, you cannot start a war with a player who doesn’t want to be in a war with you. To get a war started the first thing you should do is ask the person out of character (ooc) if they would be interested in going to war with you. Contact can usually be made via our Personal Message (PM) system. You should already have a rough outline on the war, that is who you want to win, what loses the loser will have to suffer and so forth. Usually if the story surrounding the war is well thought out and makes sense, people will agree to a war.
When it comes to actually fighting it is always important to remember that you are telling a story. Don't use your first post as a platform to show how your military is so powerful that it can take out millions in one swipe. Make it interesting, develop characters, and always remember that when it comes to posting damages rendered that should be done by the one receiving the damage and not by the one inflicting it unless both players come to an agreement on the matter. In which case remember that it is a good rule to be courteous to your opponent as they will be courteous to you in return as a sign of respect.
As for weapons, remember that we RP in modern times and thus we use modern technology. Though your nation is certainly free to experiment and develop new technologies as it grows, these technologies cannot cross the line into future technology such as having Death stars and laser riffles. If you're unsure about a technology you want to develop and where it stands, always check with an Admin: South Malaysia/Ness Snorlaxia or the RP Minister
NEVER NUKE ANYONE WITHOUT THEIR EXPRESS PERMISSION.
This is perhaps our most important rule when it comes to wars. Since we RP in modern times with modern technology most nations in our world have nuclear capabilities. However, since the devastation that nukes bring are massive, the use of such weapons require the expressed permission of your opponent. This rule also applies to the killing or assassination of major characters such as Generals or leaders of nations.
Finally you should also understand the concept of "Radical Application of Modern Technology" (RAMT for short). Basically this is anything that takes experimental or theoretical technology and applies it on a scale not possible in reality. In the simplest of terms this means that you cannot use real life experimental technology as the basis for a full functional device here in our world. An example would be using a Website claiming that Harvard is experimenting on personal cloaking devices and using that to justify that your nation is capable of producing fully functional cloaking devices on a large scale. That’s not to say that you can’t use experimental technology on a small scale – but doing so requires the consent of all other parties involved. A step on from RAMT is Future Technology. Rather than technology based on today’s technology blown out of proportion, Future Tech represents flights of fantasy that are utterly impossible at this time. The use of Future Tech is totally forbidden. Super soldiers, Impenetrable deflective armors, energy shields, faster than light space travel and terraformation of other planets are all examples of Future Tech.
Also, please read this thread as it will help you build a realistic military that will fit our world: The "How to Make a Military" Guide
-Somebody is being a jerk to me! What can I do?
Contact the two admins, South Malaysia and Ness Snorlaxia. They’re pretty good with keeping the peace here. Also, disagreeing with you is not grounds for getting a mod into the situation. For example, almost everyone on this forum has had an argument about their political views at some time. That does not mean we hate each other: we disagree. Civilized human beings can disagree without hating each other.
However, directly insulting or threatening someone crosses the line. Insulting can get you a warning. Threatening can get you a ban.
Also, remember that our forum can only exist so long as we retain some sense of civilized behavior in an effort to keep our community a safe and productive environment. Plotting behind someone's back with or without the help of others is illegal, can be met with severe consequences, and can only go to hurt not only the target victim but also the community as a whole. Always remember that your actions on the forum are a complete reflection of your own character and values. So if you wish to be a respected and valued member of our community, learn to not only respect others but also to respect and obey the rules set in place by those who work to better the community as a whole.
-How many nations can I have?
Currently you can have as many nations as you wish. However, you cannot ally all of your nations together and have them working together. You also need a nation in NationStates located within the region for each of your nations.
When it comes to the forums you can only have one account. If friends or family members want to play on the same computer (or you use a proxy to connect to the internet), let one of the Admin know when they register. You cannot ally together with members of your same household.
If you're running more than one nation off the same forum account, it's really helpful to make a list of your nations in your signature.
-What’s religion like in our world?
Religion like in the real world, is a complicated matter. Some religions in our world follow the dogmas of their real life counterparts while others do not. Still many others are religions solely made up by the players themselves and have no basis in real religious practices. When it comes to the practice of a religion, a player is free to practice whatever religion it believes it's nation should practice, or no religion at all if that is desired.
A player is also free to start it's own religion. If a nation should choose to take this path you should understand that you cannot make another nation follow your religious belief however there is nothing against asking for permission to allow your religion to spread into other nations.
Before you make a choice about religion in your country, I would try to find out what religions currently exist within our world, and make a decision based off of that.
-What about regions outside of NS World?
For roleplaying purposes, we do not interact with them and pretend they don’t exist. For us, there is Hyrule and thats it. Also understand that when you start your nation in our world you start it with a clean slate.
If you are moving into our regions from another region understand that since we do not recognize regions outside of Hyrule, we do not recognize any history you may have established in your previous region.
-How do I get started here?
When you're just starting out in our world, things can seem a little daunting. The first thing you should do is read this Read Me - well done! Next, why not make a thread in the Community Commons: "Introduce Yourself" thread to introduce who you are? If you don't have a good idea about what you want your nation to be like, then we'll be happy to give you advice if you ask for it. If you do have a good idea about the kind of nation you'd like to play then make a thread describing your nation in the OOC Discusion: "National Factfiles". Your next stop should be to go claim a spot on the regional map. Once you have done that, visit the "How to make a Military Guide":v2.7 so you can create a logical military that can e used in the future.
