| Liberate belgium
A resolution to strike down Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry in a region | Category: Liberation | Nominee (region): belgium | Proposed by: Goobergunchia | Description: The region of Belgium has been home to a regional community for over six years -- a community so old, it predated the establishment of Regional Founders. On 29 May 2009, Macedon and Mencer successfully invaded Belgium. Within 36 hours, invader delegate Wallonia-Flanders had password-protected the region and begun ejecting and banning long-time natives of the region. The occupation of the region drew condemnation from across the NationStates community, with defenders and invaders alike coming together to criticize the destruction of Belgium.
With a secret password in place, it would impossible for the natives of Belgium to reclaim their region, dooming the region to a slow death. While we hesitate to interfere in the internal affairs of regions, World Assembly intervention is the only course of action left that will allow the rightful inhabitants of Belgium to reclaim their home.
Therefore, the World Assembly hereby lifts the password on the region of Belgium, and forbids said region from being password-protected.
(FOR, NAY, AGAINST)Voting Ends Monday

| This is an easy choice for me to make: FOR.
Macedon likes to take regions that have the name of real world countries to prevent others from building them and celebrating the culture and history of the nation the region represents; they'll also attempt to remove the people already in the region so that it's left to die (ie. Pakistan, France until fairly recently). This resolution is the first step towards a potential removal of the Macedonians.
Belgium is also one of the oldest communities in NationStates (I myself have met and made friends with a few people from Belgium); even though Macedon and Mencer were well within the bounds of the rules of the game, what they did is still a deplorable act.
EDIT: Considering recent events (defenders found out the password and put West-Flanders back in the delegate's seat), I'm going to have to remove my vote and abstain.

| I'll say FOR as well. What they have done is in no way against the rules or anything like that, but I would hope that others would save us/Hyrule if something happened like that to us, and since Ness has some friends from the region, I'll suppot her efforts... | |

| im actually voting against because the policy of invasion is blatantly stated in the rules of the game as an acceptable thing to do. Sure it sucks, but its allowed. The WA shouldnt punish something that is generally acceptable | |

Yes, it is allowed, however how can you get it back if there is no support from defending nations? The WA is part of the game as well, and just like in real life, the UN steps in to help in situations such as this. Therefor, it sucks that they got raided legally, but legally we are also able to retake the region, especially since they use the WA Delegate to "raid" the region...

Bah, in real life, the UN steps in only to protect the interests of the powerful nations. I hope in this alernative reality, things will be different...

Bah, in real life, the UN steps in only to protect the interests of the powerful nations. I hope in this alernative reality, things will be different... Very true TechnoUnion. In this game though, with there being thousands and thousands of Nations, even if you took the largest nation their "percentage" of power would be dimished to 1% or something really small by the time you got the vote or whatever from every WA nation... Its a little twisted when looking at reality, but it works nicely for this game, otherwise many people would be royally screwed lol

| Exactly...many people would be screwed either way (real life or in the game) if every nation had an equal amount of say. Which is why the UN has its favorites, and the WA works well since there are so many people. In the real world the NationsStates WA wouldnt work, becuase nothing would be done because there are too many opinions, in this game, (you have to keep people happy in order to keep them playing) everyone has their opinion/vote heard so that everyone is happy, which works well for the game. To say something that relates to the thread, I still keep my vote as FOR, since everything that is happening is legal, the region being raided-the use of the WA to free the nation-and the fact that the raiding nations have to use the WA and be a WA member in order for any of the raiding/any of this scenario to be possible. | |
